“For as long as I can remember, Stockmar blocks have been used for drawing at the Waldorf school. With these materials, moods can be created in beautiful broad strokes. What is often forgotten, however, is that you can also draw very well with them, as the material lends itself excellently to capturing the gesture of form. This, however, requires mastery of various drawing techniques linked to this material,” says Paul van Meurs.

Paul van Meurs was a class teacher for 22 years and then worked for 20 years as a senior education advisor. He now supports teachers in delivering arts education and education as an art form. In this way, he helps teachers and teams shape Waldorf education. For many years, he conducted the blackboard drawing course during the Waldorf teachers’ week.

This book is the result of extensive research into didactics, materials, and techniques in drawing and painting education. It is specially designed to introduce teachers (and therefore also children) to the versatility of drawing with Stockmar blocks. Paul van Meurs: “These blocks are much more to me than just materials – they are carriers of my ideas and vision. Thanks to their rich colours and composition, I can easily shape my ideas. But above all, the blocks are just incredibly pleasant to work with!”

The book offers:

  • An introduction to 18 different techniques that make drawing with these blocks possible.
  • A step-by-step explanation of drawings and exercises.
  • YouTube videos accessible via QR codes, demonstrating the techniques.
  • The illustrations are almost entirely drawn in black, so that the shapes and techniques are shown as clearly as possible.
  • Extra inspiration: several examples in which drawing from colour takes centre stage.

An inspiring workbook to discover creativity and drawing skills in an accessible way!
