Modelling

Modelling has Stockmar modelling beeswax, sold in single colours and in sets of up to 15 colours, and Alkena modelling clay with beeswax. There is also clay and plasticine for bigger pieces. Waldorf kindergartens and schools buy them, as do parents for use at home.

In Waldorf kindergartens and the first classes, children model with beeswax. Cold wax is hard, so a child first warms it in their hands, and only then does it turn soft and willing. This waiting is part of the work. In the older classes children move on to clay and make larger, more complex forms.
